The picture was painted from the path to RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Rotary Wood above Pinewood. One of my favourite walks is to set off from the Valley Gardens in Harrogate and make my way to the top of the hill, in late October and November the woods explode into colour.
The painting is inspired by Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard. The picture has a strong illusionistic quality due to the prominent foreground and distant background where the viewer is taken on a journey through the wood.
