Short Bio: Originally from Western Australia, Mark moved to the UK in 2008, transitioning from over 20 years as an advertising illustrator to a fine artist. Now based in Leeds, he is known for oil paintings of the Yorkshire countryside, especially coastal scenes like Whitby, Staithes, and Robin Hood’s Bay.
As an exhibiting member of Leeds Fine Artists and the Association of British Naive Artists, he captures the emotional essence of scenes by exaggerating color, manipulating perspective, and pushing shape and form.
Self-taught and unbound by strict procedures, Mark relies on memory and imagination, avoiding preliminary drawings for a spontaneous approach. This method allows flexibility and the incorporation of happy accidents, resulting in either the achievement of their initial vision or an unexpected, rewarding outcome.
