Short Bio: Sophie Birdwood (b. 1964), studied Art History at Homerton College, Cambridge before moving to Saatchi and Saatchi until 1996. Following a career in advertising Sophie has focused exclusively on painting since then. Sophie’s work has been exhibited at: Cadogan Contemporary, the Francis Kyle gallery, the Mall Galleries, the Royal College of Art, the Van Gogh Gallery in Madrid, and her paintings have also been exhibited at the prestigious Luxembourg art fair.
Sophie’s work covers both the figurative and abstract. Her paintings pay a nod to the modern British artists of the 1950s and 1960s and in addition her inspiration comes from the post impressionists of the early 20th Century. Splitting her time between Umbria and London, her paintings reflect these contrasting environments. As a professional painter since 1996, Sophie’s work has evolved in sophistication and over the years she has received accolades from Lord Gowrie (previous minister of culture), and Melvyn Bragg.
